Workforce Pell Will Strengthen America's Healthcare Workforce

Posted by National Healthcareer Association on October 2025

In a recent letter to the editor published in NOLA.com, Claire Jecklin, CEO of the New Orleans Career Center (NOCC), highlights the importance of expanding Pell Grant eligibility to include skills-based credentialing programs and certification programs. These short-term programs are key to expand opportunities for learners to advance their careers, grow the allied health professional workforce, and improve the quality of patient care.

“These grants help learners from all walks of life gain critical skills for starting a career in these desperately needed roles, without incurring debt,” writes Jecklin. In the midst of a healthcare workforce shortage, expanded Workforce Pell eligibility is will enable even more passionate learners to begin a healthcare career.
