Laura Flynn

Director, CareerTechnical Education Division

Laura Flynn is the Director of the Career and Technical Education Division at National Healthcareer Association. She oversees partnerships with school districts, helping them align with state and federal Career and Technical Education (CTE) goals. On a mission to help every student access a meaningful career, she is focused on improving health science education and creating pathways that lead to industry credentials.

Prior to taking on her role at National Healthcareer Association, Laura gained experience in workforce development and education as a Workforce Advisor for a private university. Through her experiences in creating pathways for non-traditional students she developed a passion for helping individuals gain access to sustainable careers. Additionally, Laura has experience in the architecture and construction industry.

Laura has spoken at many industry events, including ACTE’s CareerTech Vision, The Credentialing Summit, and numerous state and regional conference events.

Marsha Roberts

Westwood High School (SC)

Marsha is a dedicated and passionate educator with nearly 17 years of experience. She began her journey as a Physical Education (PE) and Sports Medicine teacher. After spending nearly eleven years in this role, she decided to take a break from education to pursue a career in Fire/Rescue. During her four years as a firefighter/EMT, Marsha gained practical experience and valuable knowledge that would later shape her teaching approach.

In August 2019, she returned to education as a health science instructor at Westwood High School, where she launched the district's first medical assisting program and even received a CCMA certification herself. Recognizing the importance of providing students with comprehensive skills, she is now focused on expanding her program's offerings.Her program is working towards stacking CPT and CET credentials to better prepare students for success in the health science field. Beyond her role at Westwood High School, Marsha has also taken on the responsibility of unofficially coordinating other health science programs within the district. She is grateful for the opportunity to support and collaborate with peers in advancing health science education across the district.

Lara Morris

Oklahoma CareerTech

Lara received her Baccalaureate degree in Health and Physical Education with a minor in Athletic Training from Oklahoma State University in 1991. While working as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for women’s athletics, she was able to obtain her master’s degree in health education from the University of Alabama.

Lara taught high school health courses and worked as a Certified Athletic Trainer before coming to CareerTech. Lara’s first role at CareerTech was to coordinate Nurse Aide training and testing as well as developing a variety of Health skills standards. She has been in her current role as the State Program Manager for Health Careers Education for over 22 years and supervises a staff of six people.

She currently serves as the Past-Chair of the Executive Committee of the National Consortium for Health Science Education where she has served since 2004 in various roles including committee chair, Secretary and Chair since 2004. Lara has served in numerous capacities with HOSA, including all levels of the National Competitive Events Team and Secretary and Chair on the Board of Directors. She works with both comprehensive school and technology center high school and adult programs across Oklahoma covering over 25 health career areas.

Laurie Heath

Health Science Instructor - Davison High School

Laurie Heath is a 1989 University of Michigan graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and Sociology. She honorably served her community for over 20 years as a police officer and paramedic, earning numerous awards for professional excellence, lifesaving, and heroism. In 1996, she was a finalist for the National Female Police Officer of the Year.

An unexpected journey led Laurie to teaching, where she has excelled for the past 8 years. Her respected and diverse background made her the ideal candidate to launch the Davison High School Health Science Program. Under her leadership, the program has cultivated a culture of excellence, offering four separate certifications with an impressive 98% success rate. The program’s popularity has doubled its size in just a few years.

However, Laurie’s most significant achievement lies in the meaningful and lasting relationships she has built with her students, reflecting her commitment to making a profound and positive impact on the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Nila Gorman

Solutions Executive - CTE Division, National Healthcareer Association

Nila Gorman serves as the Solutions Executive for the CTE division at the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). In her role, she focuses on establishing partnerships with secondary institutions, school districts, and state Departments of Education to facilitate the successful implementation of NHA's nationally recognized and accredited credentials.

Nila, together with a team of Certification Specialists, has successfully introduced NHA certifications in school districts nationwide, enhancing student success by providing teachers with valuable insights into effective preparation practices and resources. Prior to joining NHA, Nila had an impressive career as an education professional, showcasing a deep commitment to integrating educational technology in secondary classrooms. Her expertise in curriculum design and administrative leadership has fueled her passion for expanding pathway opportunities for both instructors and secondary students.
