Georgia Expands Pharmacy Laws

Written by National Healthcareer Association | May 2021

Three new laws in Georgia expand patient access to pharmacy services. Pharmacists and their teams are empowered to collaborate around a mission to keep their communities healthy.

NHA, an EPIC Rx vendor partner, is in full support of these new laws, outlined below:

Act 19 increases the pharmacy technician to pharmacist ration from 3:1 to 4:1, creating opportunities for more technicians to support the pharmacy team

Act 240 allows pharmacists to order, administer and interpret COVID-19 tests for up to 12 months after the Federal State of Emergency expires.

Act 292 permits pharmacists to administer adults any vaccine approved by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practice (ACIP) and under a vaccine protocol agreement with a physician.

Act 19 presents a particularly unique opportunity for individuals looking to enter the Pharmacy field as new jobs are likely to open in their communities. We encourage pharmacies to innovate around career advancement opportunities within their pharmacy teams and support their growing teams through dedicated training and career development.
