National Healthcareer Association® (NHA) announced today the launch of its new podcast, OnScript with NHA, which addresses challenges and brings attention to career opportunities for pharmacy technicians. Part of the Pharmacy Podcast Network (PPN), OnScript with NHA will deliver meaningful information for and about pharmacy technicians to the network’s more than 70,000 listeners. The podcast will feature conversations with pharmacy industry leaders, practicing professional, as well as educators with vested interests in the success of pharmacy technicians.
“There are more than half a million pharmacy technicians working across the United States. These professionals need a platform that elevates their contributions as important members of the pharmacy workforce,” says Jeremy Sasser, pharmacy content strategist at NHA and host of OnScript with NHA.
In his role at NHA, Sasser works to give a voice for pharmacy technicians, forecasts trends in content and education, and continually advocates for patient safety. Before joining NHA, Sasser served as a manager in specialty pharmacy for more than 1700 Albertsons/Safeway pharmacies nationwide, overseeing 20 specialty care technicians. He developed his passion for the industry when he began working part-time for a local pharmacy during high school.
“For years, I’ve witnessed the vital roles pharmacy technicians play in the pharmacy,” says Sasser. “However, between regulation and lack of creativity in the industry, opportunities for advancement seemed to be limited and often up to technicians themselves to create. With a shift in the pharmacy patient care model, now is the time give the technician workforce a unified voice and to push for advancing technician practice. We're propelling that conversation forward through OnScript with NHA.”
PPN hosts more than 20 different podcast programs and has over 30 different co-hosts helping to develop audio content about different pharmacy topics. OnScript with NHA is the first podcast in PPN dedicated to the pharmacy technician, but shares complementary perspectives with the PPN family of podcasts, providing a comprehensive view of pharmacy and its role in patient care and safety.
“In every pharmacy, there are multiple technicians providing support for the pharmacist in charge, helping to manage the pharmacy workflow and providing excellent customer service,” said Todd Eury, founder of PPN. “PPN is dedicated to supporting all roles working in the pharmacy, and OnScript will be a great resource for technicians and for those who educate and manage them.”
As an advocate for pharmacy technicians, NHA is dedicated to providing in-depth content that supports career development for technicians, including its new training tool, PharmaSeer™ and the ExCPT national certification exam. Through OnScript, NHA will explore the needs and challenges for pharmacy technicians and their employers, spurring dialogue that increases awareness of opportunities to elevate the role of pharmacy technicians.
