Virginia’s economy has a skills gap, and it’s not alone. There simply aren’t enough credentialed workers to fill the open jobs in practically every state, according to the National Skills Coalition.
Together with the California Pharmacist Association (CPhA), NHA announces the inaugural California Pharmacy Technician Recognition Program. The awards will be presented live at Western Pharmacy Exchange Annual Conference on April 13thduring the CPhA Awards Ceremony Luncheon from 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. “Recognizing high performing innovators amongst pharmacy technicians, technician educators and employers is an important way to elevate the pharmacy technician profession,” said Jessica Langley, Executive Director of Education and Advocacy at NHA. Apprenticeship programs follow a tried and true model that has built the modern American economy. What was once a common method for training in the manufacturing and trade area has now spread across the healthcare sector.
The model is working in healthcare, and the introduction has happened at the right time. With employment of healthcare occupations is projected to grow by 18 percent from 2016 to 2026 — adding 2.4 million new jobs — apprenticeships help create a new avenue for empowering the next generation of healthcare professionals.
