Now Available — Live Remote Proctoring (LRP)

Effective Tuesday, May 19, NHA is excited to announce that LRP is now an available testing option for your candidates, allowing them to securely take NHA’s eight nationally accredited certification exams remotely from their homes.

With LRP, you can provide your candidates a safe, socially distanced testing option under the secure virtual supervision of a third party live remote proctor—provided by our partner, PSI—relieving your institution of the burden of proctoring or needing to wait for testing centers to re-open.

Candidates may begin registering for and scheduling their LRP exams if your institution is set up for LRP as a testing modality (see “Latest Updates” section below for details).

Latest Updates on Exam Testing and Eligibility

Utilize Live Remote Proctoring (LRP)

Since NHA received approval from our accrediting body, National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) to offer LRP during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been working diligently to make this an option for your candidates.
  • If you haven’t already done so, please reach out to your NHA Certification Specialist to have your account set up for LRP as a testing modality, to ensure your candidates can leverage LRP testing. This must be completed at least 48 hours before your candidates can begin registering for and/or scheduling their exam(s).
  • If you are not yet partnered with NHA and would like to utilize LRP for NHA exams, please complete the How To Get Started form on our website and we will be in contact with you to help you get set up based on your institution’s needs.
  • Candidates who were temporarily unable to schedule or take an exam between 5/13 – 5/18 due to the PSI/NHA system integration and upgrade can now register for and reschedule their exams with LRP as an option in addition to PSI on-site testing centers.

Third Party Testing Centers/PSI Update

PSI is continuing to monitor the latest developments associated with the global spread of COVID-19. From the beginning of the outbreak, they have followed strict safety procedures in line with federal, state and local guidelines as well as guidelines provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as well as the World Health Organization (WHO).

At all times, PSI’s top priority has been the health, safety and well-being of your candidates. They are making great strides in returning their solutions and services to normal.

As of June 23rd, 2020, PSI now has over 98% of its owned and operated testing centers opened. PSI posts the list of open sites on their website, however NHA wants to remind you and your candidates that the most accurate and up-to-date availability can be found via the scheduling tool in your NHA portal.

Rescheduling exams with PSI

Effective immediately, candidates can reschedule up to and including the day of testing at no penalty and no documentation required. NOTE: In most cases, candidates can reschedule their examinations on-line and they are encouraged to do so. If a candidate chooses to reschedule through PSI's candidate support call center, they may experience longer than usual wait times under the current circumstances.

CPT and CET eligibility modifications during COVID-19

NHA appreciates all you are doing to help your students access a better future, even during a time that has presented unique challenges. Here are the latest updates on CET and CPT eligibility requirements during COVID-19.  Click here to read the full overview.

  • During the COVID-19 outbreak and for a reasonable time thereafter, our Board has authorized CPT and CET candidates to take their certification exam upon completion of required coursework and to receive the appropriate pass/fail result.
  • Candidates who pass their exam before meeting the eligibility requirements will receive documentation that they successfully passed the exam and are considered conditionally certified.
  • The additional hands-on eligibility requirement must be satisfied within 90 days of passing the exam.
  • If the COVID-19 outbreak prevents candidates from completing the venipuncture, capillary sticks and/or EKG eligibility requirements within the 90-day period of passing their exam, NHA and our Certification Governing Board will extend the timeframe for completion.
  • When the school receives documentation showing the additional requirements have been completed and attests that requirement has been fulfilled, NHA will automatically update their status and issue the full certification.
  • At this time, the Board is not considering alternative means of demonstrating these live requirements (e.g. waiving or reducing the quantity performed and/or allowing the use of simulation).

If you would like to learn more about this extension and pursue implementation for your institution, please complete this addendum and then contact your NHA representative.
